Founded by independent filmmaker, actor, director, writer, producer, and author R.D. Castleberry, CREATE THE WRITERS ROOM (CTWR) was born from a simple belief: talented storytellers don't lack vision—they often lack access. What started as a space dedicated to supporting writers has grown into a filmmaker-first creative ecosystem, recognizing that every screenplay deserves the chance to become a finished film. As an independent filmmaker, Castleberry understands firsthand the challenges of bringing stories to life and created CTWR to help bridge the gap between great ideas and real opportunity.

 

Today, CTWR supports screenwriters, directors, producers, actors, and emerging filmmakers through curated programs, workshops, and Five Film Fridays—creating intentional spaces where artists develop their craft, receive valuable feedback, build lasting creative relationships, and showcase their work in front of audiences and industry decision-makers who can help advance their careers.

 

Through its collaboration with The Roku Channel, CTWR is extending that mission beyond the event itself by giving independent filmmakers a tangible opportunity to have their work seen, discovered, and celebrated. Together, the collaboration provides creatives with more than exposure—it offers a platform to continue building sustainable careers, leverage their unique voices, and prove that independent storytelling deserves to exist alongside the industry's biggest titles.
